Failing Cyber-Essentials because legacy servers are stuck on an old SMB1 server?
Cannot access an old CNC machine that needs to work with SMB1?
We have the solution……
Cyber Essentials have a strict policy of prohibiting SMB1 client on all in-scope devices, this can pose a real problem for companies that need to access old computers or device based on this older protocol. Installing SMB1 compatibility is an “instant fail” to Cyber Essentials.
Fortunately, we have engineered a solution that’s a proven success in the field.
- De-scope the aged server, service, machine or device, it’s not allowed, however can be isolated on a VLAN.
- Use a custom built proxy server to convert SMB1 to SMB3 and visa versa.
Our custom server is built to run either as a plugin black-box solution or as a virtual machine, is based on Debian and is although should be de-scoped (as it connects to insecure SMB1 devices) is otherwise fully secure and compliant to security requirements.
